Question: How Do I Make Sure Best Interest and Reasonable Efforts Help Determine Eligibility?

Question: How do I make sure that a child's "Best Interest" and "Reasonable Efforts" (RE) statements pull forward into the financial module for determining eligibility?

Answer: When the worker received the best interest and reasonable efforts statements in accordance with the initial Agency Legal Status:

1. The system will look for one of the following Legal Status Types:

  •     Emergency Custody to Agency
  •     Ex-parte
  •     Permanent Custody
  •     PPLA
  •     Temporary Court Order
  •     Temporary Custody

2. A ruling must be recorded with Custody as the Ruling Type.

3. Within the ruling, each Ruling(s) Received should be entered with Best Interest and RE to Prevent Placement - Initial or one of the RE Not Req (Reasonable Efforts) selections.

4. The Date of Ruling and Legal Status Begin Date need to match when recording the Best Interest statement.

5. When recording the Reasonable Efforts statement, the Ruling Received can be in any ruling when the Date of Ruling is within 60 days of the initial Agency Legal Status Begin Date.

Note: If the agency-received Best Interest Ruling date is greater than the first Legal Status Effective date, then the child does not meet the eligibility requirements.
